Introduction

Many of the Worlds population own a motor vehicle of some type or have a drivers license. Are you aware you can save money in many ways with a car?

In my life In New Zealand, I am more aware as I Travel to get everywhere being in a Suburb that is outside the central city. I use a Car to get my children to school, (we travel at least 10 minutes one way), also do do daily tasks, appointments.

The tips here can help anyone that owns a vehicle or uses one daily to do daily tasks. eg. getting to work, doing shopping, travelling out of town.....it's great to know we can still look after our vehicles but keep our costs down.

Here are some Tips to Ponder when Purchasing your first vehicle or

when buying with saving in mind long term.

  • Consider Diesel or Hybrid
  • Tyre Replacement Costs, parts can differ between vehicles. (Right now BMW older versions are cheap to buy but the cost of replacement parts definately is more expensive than common brands. Shop around folks)
  • Services estimation ( some models of cars have very expensive items to replace)
  • Opt for a Manual if possible, Manual gear changing can cut fuel.
  • Look to see if Vehicle has Cruise Control, this can keep you limited on open road.
  • Check vehicle history, it may have expensive back problems not corrected yet.
  • See if there is a Warrant of Fitness of Vehicle Recently, this could warn you of electrical damages with second hand cars.
  • Buy from a reputable dealer, they will give you a warrantly minimum in New Zealand of 6 months.

18 Car Savings Idea's

Use any of our 18 Ideas to save on Car Expenses.

  1. Drive No faster than Road Limits
  2. Use the brake to reduce speed, this limits fuel intake immediately.
  3. Use Maps to your Destination, a shorter route can save you big time.
  4. Limit Using Air Conditioning, the Petrol Runs this item on your car, limit it or don’t use if it possible.
  5. Use the bus when you can. (help protect our environment & know you can)
  6. Keep your Vehicle Maintained Effectively service this as a poor running engine can make your Gas & Oil costs dramatically increase.
  7. Car Pool When you can, see if anyone at work travels the same route, you can half your costs just by this one step.
  8. Keep your oil change up to date.
  9. Use 91 instead of 95 Super is Higher priced, if you can use unleaded or a new breed of fuel coming out with your vehicle this would be terrific.
  10. Keep your tyres Air Up, wheels with less air than others causes more wear & tear on your wheels and can put pressure on your Cars Performance.
  11. Travelling behind vehicles gives your car less drive you can use, which means the car in front get the wind to push against, not you.
  12. Check if fuel outlets have specials, this can reduce with some a day earlier.
  13. Try not to be heavy footed, a cruisey car is an efficient car.
  14. Shop Around for Insurance, but make sure you at least have 3rd part insurance. Full cover is the best. Price Differences can start from 5 savings up to 30 on over 25 ages.
  15. Walk instead of driving when possible.
  16. Be a smart consumer, get written quotes for all repairs.
  17. Get windscreen protection insurance included, this would cost you if you don’t have around 500.00 so its worth it.
  18. Share costs with other drivers, if someone can come in your car much like car pooling you can share expenses and keep one car off the road.

Use the brakes to reduce speed? Are you serious? Always reduce your speed by dropping gears unless you must use the brakes.

GFYM, Maybe the punctuation comment is warranted. As for spelling, I am In New Zealand, you must be in America, we spell different. Thanks for popping along.

Driving within the speed limit (road limit) will save you on fuel for sure...it can also save you from having to pay a speeding ticket. (At least here in America, those tickets are very expensive.)

Thankyou Mulberry, its the same in New Zealand. If you get too many you can loose your license here, not nice. Moral-don't speed, lol

@houseplus. No, I'm not from America, but Denmark and dosn't have english as my first language, but as I know, the english word "or" is with a "r" as the last letter, not "f" (see your first line), and the word "to" is with a "t" and not "d", as you wrote (see your fifth line).

So please spellcheck, proof read and stop using capital letters all over, so the meaning can be clear, and you avoid smartasses like me comment you errors.

Is not that hard to do.

We use alcohol as fuel in Brazil and the gas is 20% alcohol.

The new cars are "flex". You can fill her up with gas or alcohol.
